VFO-4200 Video Firewall Options

The MCU has 2 Ethernet ports - A & B. Port B is disabled, by default, on the base MCU and IP VCR. The activation of the video firewall option feature allows Port B to be enabled. In a video firewall deployment one of the ports is connected to the local network (typically Port A) and the other (typically Port B) is connected to the Internet. This is because Port B cannot use DHCP. This allows the MCU to host conferences with a mix of participants from the internal and external networks. This does not compromise your network security because the MCU will never route packets between the two ports, not even media packets. You can purchase your unit with the feature already activated or add the option later.

Web Conferencing Options - WCO

With the Web Conferencing Option you can add data, such as slides, chat and annotations to standard video and voice streaming, giving each participant an interactive experience regardless of how they connect.

The Codian MCU 4200 series supports the ITU H.239 protocol. This protocol allows H.323 endpoints to contribute or receive an additional video channel when communicating to the MCU. This additional video channel is typically used for a low-motion, high resolution stream such as a slide-based presentation. Web conferencing. In addition to communicating with H.323 endpoints using the H.239 protocol for contributing or receiving this content channel, the MCU 4200 series also provides the facility for streaming the content channel to users’ desktops. As part of content channel streaming, video markup may be added to the content video stream, and text chat messages may be sent between participants. These features require the web conferencing option feature key.

H.239 availability for ad hoc conferences The H.239 (content channel) is available in scheduled conferences and it is also available in ad hoc conferences, if this option is enabled for the unit. H.239 streaming change With version 1.3(x) software, an optional WCO feature key was required to enable streaming viewers to view the content channel. Without the feature key, the content channel was unavailable for streaming viewers. With this release (version 1.4 software), on an MCU without the WCO feature key, streaming viewers will see the content channel as a pane in the main video window. The behavior for an MCU with the WCO has not changed.

You can configure the MCU to share data with a conference using H.239 and VNC. H.239 is enabled box-wide by default but you can also enable or disable it on a per conference basis. The H.239 channel is in addition to the main video channel. The MCU has several methods of displaying data within a conference: 􀁦 Via the H.239 channel to endpoints 􀁦 In the standard video channel 􀁦 Streaming to a web browser.

Third party free software VNC can be used to share PC data in a conference so that participants with endpoints that do not support H.239 can still contribute data. On the computer that you intend to use, download the free edition of VNC from https://www.realvnc.com/download.html. The MCU calls the VNC computer participant into the conference and the PC desktop is shared in the conference.

High Resolution Options - HRO

With the High Resolution Options, the MCU supports enhanced resolutions from 4CIF up to 720p HD, allowing multiple sites to be viewed simultaneously with no loss of clarity — you can clearly see all participants and content at the same time.

Every port on the MCU supports: a. Any Codec (H.261, H.263, H.264) b. Any Speed (up to 4MB) c. Any Resolution (QCIF,CIF,4CIF,VGA,SVGA,XVGA)

The ability to send video in widescreen format is governed by the presence of the high resolution feature key (HRO). If the MCU has not been configured with this feature key, these controls will not be available.

Send "widescreen" format video to a participant - means that the video is intended to be displayed on a screen whose dimensions (width and height) are in the ratio 16:9.

Send "normal" format video to a participant - this means that the video is intended to be displayed on a screen whose dimensions (width and height) are in the ratio 4:3.

Enhanced resolution support - the current software release includes support for 720p (1280 x 720) screen resolution with H263+.
