Some Operational Skype Tips & Issues - The F8 Key and video output settings.
For operation of the VSS-1 system with Skype & just the local conference room only, you just need the HDMI cable showing the laptop screen (e.g. the remote Skype participants) on the local conference room monitor, plus the AV capture & streaming from the codec to the VSS-1 (showing the conference room to the remote Skype participants).
For operation of the VSS-1 system with Skype & remote H323 sites, you need both the HDMI & VGA outputs running at the same time. The HDMI shows the laptop screen (e.g. the remote Skype participants) on the local conference room monitor. The VGA output sends the laptop screen (e.g. the remote Skype participants) to the remote H.323 sites via the codec.
For the Asus laptop installations, the LCD/Monitor Icon (F8) performs this function: (press the function key and f8 together). This function key toggles between the Notebook PC's LCD display, the HDMI monitor and an external monitor VGA: e.g. LCD Only -> HDMI -> LCD & HDMI -> VGA CRT Only (External VGA Monitor) -> LCD + CRT Clone -> LCD + CRT Extend – HDMI -> HDMI + VGA -> LCD.
(This function does not work in 256 Colors; select High Color in Display
Property Settings.)
NOTE: It's recommended that you
connect
your external HDMI monitor
cable & your VGA codec or monitor cable "before" booting up.
Otherwise this function may not work smoothly through all the possible video
display options.
