- Not over the web and not in Windows Media player . . . Streaming on the Polycom and the TANDBERG line normally works only on LAN's with Apple QuickTime Player and Cisco IP/TV viewer (and not the popular Windows Media Player).
- Both the Polycom streaming and TANDBERG streaming function is based just on International Telecommunication Standards H.261 and G.711. This does not provide streaming over the web.
- See info on TANDBERG streaming capabilities at: https://www.tandberg.net/collateral/product_brochures/TANDBERG_streaming.pdf
- Polycom says. . ."In general, streaming using IP multicast does not work across the Internet. It is usually restricted to a local area network (LAN). This is because most routers on the Internet do not pass multicast data. To stream to someone on the Internet, the person's unicast address must be specified."
- For multicast streaming on your LAN you can specify the number of router hops usually set to just 1 or 2.
- In contrast our VSS Video Streaming Solution works with Media Player and can broadcast over the internet to an unlimited number of viewers (with VSS-ISP2), and up to 50 viewers (with your own ISP or the optional VSS-ISP1 )
Can this VSS-1 system work with any type of Polycom, LifeSize, Sony or Cisco TANDBERG system?
- Yes. It works well with most models. It uses the Standard Definition VCR/DVD recording connections on these systems to stream out and record both the local and the remote audio and video. Some models required extra cables and connections. Tell us what model you have and how to make it work with VSS-1.
Can the live video from the VSS-1 be saved for later playback locally and playback over the web?
- Yes. Archived streams can easily be saved for each session and they can be made available for on-demand access. The VSS-1 system can save the files locally or on the optional on-line storage via the recommended ISP services. The archived streams are saved in the popular Windows Media format.
What does each person need to see the live stream?
- The client just needs appropriate speed internet access and the popular Microsoft Windows Media Player - available for free download from https://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/ (this link also describes the PC requirements and the installation instructions).
- With the VSS-1 system, your PC/Laptop screen shows on the conference room monitor and you can dial or receive video or audio calls as usual via Skype.
