VSS-1 Installation Guide - Step 1

Here are the typical steps and checklist required for installation of the VSS-1 System in your conference room:

Step 1 - to Setup and Test your existing Teams/Skype Audio & Video, and your IP bandwidth  in your Conference Room:

Notes: Before changing any connections, please turn off your equipment - the codec, screen and VSS-1 System. This reduces the risk of equipment damage due to static electricity or other issues. The VSS-1 System should be running the latest version of Skype, and the operating system (e.g. Windows 10), and for safety has Microsoft Security Essentials installed. . . and be very careful not to trip on any cables.

  1. Turn on the VSS-1 System (or your PC/Laptop with the VSS-1-Kit), with it's webcam and mic.

  2. Start the  Teams/Skype application and login to your  Teams/Skype account.

  3. On The VSS-1 System screen, can you see your local audio move the volume indicator in Skype?

    1. See Skype/Options/Audio Settings - this tests operation of your local VSS-1 System mic

  4. Can you see your local video in Skype? -

    1. See Skype/Options/Video Settings - this tests operation of  your local VSS-1 System webcam

  5. Can the VSS-1 System in the conference room successfully make a  Teams/Skype audio test call?

    1. See Skype/Options/Audio Settings/Make a Free Test Call - this double checks your local VSS-1 System audio settings and your internet & network connection - using your local VSS-1 System mic.

  6. Can the VSS-1 System in the conference room successfully make a  Teams/Skype video & audio test call to a remote  Teams/Skype site?

    1. Call someone on your  Teams/Skype contact list, using your local VSS-1 System - this double checks your local video, audio & network settings for outbound calls.

    2. Can you see and hear the remote  Teams/Skype site?

    3. Can the remote  Teams/Skype site see and hear you?

  7. Check & download the latest version of  Teams/Skype onto the VSS-1 System.. In Skype, click on Help/Check for Updates. The current version is needed for full support of GVC and Desktop/Screen Sharing.

  8. To be able to make  Teams/Skype Group Video Calls - one person in the call may need to have a paid subscription for this service.

Step 1 Completion Test

  1. Open and check  Teams/Skype on the VSS-1 System,

    1. Click on Tools/Options/Video Settings - can you see the local VSS-1 webcam video?

    2. Click on Tools/Options/Audio Settings - can you see the local VSS-1 microphone indicator move as you speak?

    3. Click on Tools/Options/Audio Settings/Speakers Green Icon - can you hear the test sound from the local VSS-1 speakers?

    4. Click on Tools/Options/Audio Settings/Make a Free Test Call - can you make the test call & hear the recording playback from the 20 second test call?

  2. Can The VSS-1 System at the conference room successfully receive a  Teams/Skype video & audio test call from a remote  Teams/Skype site?

    1. Ask someone on your  Teams/Skype contact list to call the VSS-1 System - this double checks your local VSS-1 System video, audio & network settings for inbound calls.

    2. Can you see and hear the remote  Teams/Skype site on the VSS-1 System?

    3. Can the remote  Teams/Skype site see and hear you from the VSS-1 System?
