VSS-1 Installation Guide - Step 2

Here are the typical steps and checklist required for installation of the VSS-1 System (Patent Pending) in your conference room:

Step 2 - Connect the VSS-1 System directly to your Room LCD/Plasma video screen & speakers - HDMI recommended.

Notes: Before changing any connections, please turn off your equipment - the codec, screen and VSS-1 System. This reduces the risk of equipment damage due to static electricity or other issues. The VSS-1 System should be running the latest version of the operating system (e.g. Windows 10) and for safety has Microsoft Security Essentials installed. . . and be very careful not to trip on any cables.

For this Step 2, you will need a video cable & an audio cable to connect the VSS-1 System to the LCD/Plasma screens & speakers. The simplest connection is the HDMI cable (for both the Video & Audio) included with the VSS-1 System system. Connect the HDMI cable from the VSS-1 PC/Laptop to an open HDMI port on your Room LCD/Plasma screen.

For older screens, other cabling may be needed.  Here's information on the possible cables for this step, e.g. a VGA cable is a common PC/Laptop connection (but that has video only).

Video Connection

  1. Cable Options:

    • HDMI Cables - this is the preferred connection available for the VSS-1 System, new Laptops/PCs, and modern LCDs/Plasmas. One HDMI cable connects Video & Audio from the VSS-1 System to the Room Screen/Monitor. If you codec is connected the HDMI-1 on your LCD/Plasma screen, connect the VSS-1 System to HDMI-2.

    • VGA Cables - Use the a VGA cable to connect the VGA output from the VSS-1 System to the VGA inputs on the screen (typically in this case Audio is not available on the Room Screen from the PC, instead only PC Speakers or a separate Audio system can carry the sound).  Contact us for the VGA cable, if you need to get one.

    • s-Video Cable - Some older systems have an s-video output that can be used to connect video to an LCD/Plasma.

  2. Turn on the VSS-1 System and the Room Screen/Monitor.

  3. From the VSS- System, with the HDMI cable, the PC screen should now be showing on the LCD/Plasma.

For older systems with a VGA cable, activate the video presentation output mode from the PC - often this requires your to enter a keyboard combination such as Alt F8 (this key combination varies depending on the model you are using - e.g. HP systems may use F4). Sometimes you need to toggle on, then toggle off, then toggle on again, to get the VGA output to show using the Atl F8 key. . . or even restart your system once the VGA/HDMI cable is connected.

  4. Can you see the remote  Teams/Skype video on the VSS-1 System screen and the videoconferencing system monitor? (or with the VGA cable,  as you toggle the VGA output on, then off).

Audio Connection

For conference rooms with screens that have HDMI inputs, the preferred method is a single HDMI cable connection Audio & Video to the HDMI of the VSS-1 System.

For conference rooms with projectors or screens that have only VGA inputs, use the a VGA cable to connect the VGA output from the VSS-1 System to the VGA inputs on the screen.  In this case, Audio is available in a separate Room audio amplifier/mixer from the VSS-1 System, or instead only PC Speakers/Amplifiers can carry the sound.

  1. Can you hear the remote  Teams/Skype audio on the Room videoconferencing system screen/monitor?

    1. If not, check the mute button and volume level on the VSS-1 System and the videoconferencing system monitor.

    2. On some codecs, there is a sound volume indicator showing audio input levels

Step 2 Completion Test

  1. Can the VSS-1 System in the conference room successfully receive a  Teams/Skype video & audio test call from a remote  Teams/Skype site and be seen on your conference room screen and heard on your conference room screen speakers?

    1. Can you carry out the Step 1 Completion Test and see and now hear & see the results on the Conference Room Screen & Speakers?

This completes Step 1 and 2 of the installation. Remote  Teams/Skype Smart Phone, PC, Laptop or Mac users can now make video calls to the local room videoconferencing system - they can be seen and heard on the local conference room monitor and speakers - but so far they can only see video provided by the local VSS-1 System webcam and audio provided by the local VSS-1 System mic.
